Great Scott County Cleanup By Ginny Hartnett
A cleanup is being organized for Old Forester Park on Monday, December 21st. The focus will be to clear away growth around the big foundations (what some folks refer to as "The Castles") near the pavilion. There are some good sized trees that have grown up among them and the county will participate in the heavier work. They'll have a chipper there, and any volunteers wishing to haul chips home will be welcome to help themselves. Volunteers will also be there from the Forester Historical Society and Jim Wilcox' agri students. Candy Bliss (Forester Historical Society) will provide lunch. The 10 day forecast right now looks like low 50's with a 30% chance of rain. Candy said that if the weather is really bad, they'll try again in January. We've worked on this area some in the last couple of fall cleanups, but as it tends to be snakey there (next to the pond), the major work was put off til winter. I told Candy I'd put the word out. We can help by lopping or hauling brush, moving chips to mulch trees, being go-fors, or helping Candy get lunch served up. I'm planning to go unless my grandson (due 12/20) decides to make his appearance then. The park is looking great. If you haven't been out there for a while, it will be worth the trip to see what's going on.
If you, your group, or organization wish to participate, either by being recognized and receiving supplies for a project of your own or by supporting one of the park cleanups, please contact local cleanup coordinator, Ginny Hartnett at 577-2658 or recyclegin@gmail.com .
